Terms of Use

Companies or customers ("users") who utilize Karlo API provided by Kakao Brain ("Brain") through Kakao Developers, must agree to the terms of use outlined below, in addition to consenting to the terms of Service and Operating Policy of Kakao Developers.

Terms of Use

User Obligations

1. To comply with these terms of use, users must obtain the necessary consent from end users and promptly fulfill the obligations of notification in a lawful manner. Users must also comply with relevant laws regarding the protection of personal information in target countries where services are provided using Karlo API.
2. Users must adhere to the Signature Text and Logo usage as specified in Brand Guidelines.
3. The following actions are strictly prohibited when using Karlo API:
   1. Utilizing the API or generating content that violates Content guideline, Terms of Service, and Operating Policy of Kakao Developers
   2. Packaging or misrepresenting features provided by Karlo API as self-developed technologies for third parties
   3. Redistributing or providing Karlo API to third parties without modification
   4. Violating Brand Guideline while using Brain's Signature Text or Logo, or misleading third parties about technical collaboration and partnerships with Brain
   5. Removing, modifying, or rearranging watermarks included as default options in images generated by Karlo without explicit consent from Brain
   6. Inputting personal information or private information of oneself or others into Karlo API

• Brain does not guarantee the originality, copyright, and intellectual property rights of any final output generated through Karlo API in respect to the rights of third parties. Users may be fully aware of this and utilize Karlo API accordingly.

Rights Granted to Brain

• Users grant Brain a global license to utilize information related to the user's activities for Brain’s promotion, marketing, improvement, and research purposes within the limits permitted by relevant laws, Kakao Developers' terms and conditions, and operational policies.
• Users grant Brain the right to monitor the user’s activities related to API utilization and content creation that are prohibited in these terms of use and content guidelines. Brain reserves the right to immediately suspend usage if users violate these terms of use and content guidelines. Users agree to indemnify Brain from any and all damages and liabilities arising from such violations.

Signature text

Users must accurately describe the usage of the API within their own product development by using the text "Powered by Karlo" ("signature text"). It is essential to inform end users that the company's product has been developed using Brain’s technology, Karlo.

Usage of Signature Text

The signature text can be used in product UI, promotional materials, press coverage, and app store descriptions. It is not allowed to use any wording that describes partnership relationships, joint development, or any other meaning beyond the specified purposes. Additionally, using "Kakao Brain", "카카오브레인", "Karlo", or "칼로" model names directly in the product or app name is not permitted as it may cause confusion to end users.

Logo

Users of Karlo API may use Karlo logo by referring to the logo usage guidelines provided by Brain. The logo should be used in accordance with a precise understanding and application of the logo usage guidelines to maintain brand consistency and protect the values and commercial interests of Brain. By using the logo, users agree that the created logo may be used in Brain's marketing activities.

• Logo usage is only permitted within the boundaries allowed by Brain's guidelines.
• The rights to use the logo granted by Brain is non-exclusive and non-transferable.
• Brain reserves the right to modify the logo usage guidelines at any time, and users must comply with any changes immediately.
• Brain may review users' logo usage and request modifications or discontinuation if necessary.
• Users who are requested for modification or discontinuation must immediately cease logo usage.

Content guideline

Guidelines for Content Usage

Kakao Brain’s AI model, Karlo, has been developed to support creators' efficiency and creativity in discovering and expressing new creatives. Brain expects users to utilize Karlo technology responsibly and lawfully, ensuring safety and responsible usage.

The usage of Karlo API allows the creation, publication, and sharing of content within the G rating (suitable for all audiences). Users may not generate, publish, or share content that exceeds the G rating. It is strictly prohibited to disrespect others’ rights and cause harm. Creating, publishing, or sharing content that includes the following elements using Karlo technology is not allowed.

• Discriminatory or offensive content
  • Content containing malicious and aggressive elements
  • Content that promotes or incites hatred
  • Content that promotes violence or self-harm
• Content with illegal purposes or promoting illegal activities
  • Content containing or promoting illegal activities or violations of the law
  • Content with the purpose of selling illegal products or services
• Content that may lead to misinformation, false statements, or misunderstandings
  • Content intended to deceive as if it were factual in areas of expertise (health, finance, law, etc.)
  • Content that may negatively impact an individual's finances or rights protection
• Content that disregards the rights of children or is created for sexual satisfaction
  • Content depicting children in a sexual or abusive manner
  • Sexually explicit content
• Content that infringes upon the rights of third parties (e.g., copyright, portrait rights)
  • Content created by uploading information or data without the consent of others
  • Content containing personal information
  • Content that infringes upon the copyrights of others
• Content that violates Kakao's policies on the eradication of hate speech
  • Content that incites violence against specific individuals or groups based on origin (country, region, etc.), race, appearance, disabilities or illnesses, social and economic status, religion, age, gender, sexual identity, or other identity factors, endangering human dignity.

The generation, use, posting, and sharing of any content that is unpleasant to people, may have unfair or negative impacts on people, attempts to bypass or circumvent safety measures, violates the terms of service, causes harm to individuals or groups, or promotes harm are all prohibited.

Watermark Display

When sharing images generated by AI (Artificial Intelligence), it is crucial to display watermarks indicating that they were created using AI. Karlo watermark, which is included in the content produced using Karlo API, should be prominently displayed and not removed or altered. By displaying the watermark, the transparency and authenticity of the AI-generated content's source can be maintained, providing clear information to end users.

Commercial Use

Users must follow Brain’s terms, policies, and content guidelines if users use Karlo-generated content for commercial use. For inquiries about commercial use, contact us through the partnership portal.

Content Policy Violation

Brain prohibits any actions that infringe human rights of specific individuals or groups or violate existing laws when using the service. Karlo API users are expected to make efforts to prevent human rights violations of all stakeholders, including service providers, users, and individuals exposed to the service. Brain may prohibit the creation, use, posting, and sharing of content that infringes freedom of expression or privacy violation according to appropriate internal procedures. If users fail to comply with the policies, Brain may request the modification or removal of problematic content. In cases of repeated or severe policy violations, Brain may suspend the user’s usage of Karlo API or terminate the contract. Additionally, Brain may take further measures such as requesting accountability and compensation for any damages incurred.
